Bond Day

Simple as that..

This post isn’t to say that day in day out you aren’t spending time with your child/children, it’s to dedicate a day full of fun and activities minus running any errands, visits or appointments. It’s a day just for them !

In our ideal “perfect mama world”, we’d love to be painting and baking all day every day but reality is far from that. Dedicate a day, where you can do all different activities that revolve around your LO.. It’s fun and inexpensive.

Idea One:
Little munchkins from 6 months will enjoy painting! The ooey gooey feeling of them dipping their tiny fingers in paint will excite every tiny bone in their body! You can purchase large disposable plastic sheets (to avoid the cleaning up task post painting sesh),canvases from $2 stores and non toxic, baby friendly paint (office works). Mix it up – using masking tape, create shapes and letters, let their little hands paint away then when dry peal off the tape to show the outline (:

Idea Two:
Pack a picnic box just for the two/three/four of you and head out, any day during the week. Pack some sandwiches, juice boxes , dry snacks and head to a local park (even more fun if you find one with a sand pit). Get involved, don’t just sit on the side and watch, children love when their mama decides to unleash the big kid inside of her (:

Idea Three:
If it’s too much of a hassle to leave the home ( especially if you have a new born & toddler, leaving home may be a huge task). Create a blanket fort, toddlers will love this! Though warning your house may look like it was invaded by pirates (:
Using your regular household furniture (couches, stools etc) throw the blankets around (attempting to create a tent like mini cubby house) and begin ! Add to the fun by dressing up , placing socks on your hands and shorts on your head, (ensure you’ve thrown “adulthood” out the door ! Children love seeing adults be goofy, especially when they don’t have another sibling/ child with them to enjoy themselves with.

I’m sure reading this, at least three more ideas will spring to your mind ! Just remember the most important part of all is to enjoy it ! Second ? TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS! Its those sleepless nights, stressful days where you’ll be going through your phone and be forced to crack a smile when looking back.

Making life easier …

This post is just to share a couple of tips with you beautiful mamas in regards to being organised and making life a little easier.

Tip One: THE BABY BAG
Oh sometimes I feel like I have packed my LO’s entire wardrobe into his backpack for only one outing ! Get into a routine of what I like to call the “night time clean up”. So once your LO is in bed, unpack the entire bag, take out what has been used and put aside for the washing (e.g. The spare tshirt that he/she ended up using) then repack another tshirt. Get your nappy number in order (e.g. I pack 5 nappies) so by that night if three we were used, pack another three, don’t wait till a couple of days later to notice that you’re running on one nappy while out shopping.

Tip Two: Lunch Box (Toddlers)
While unpacking the whole bag, start re packing for the next day.. Dry snacks for example can be packed the night before. So pack the snacks like biscuits, tiny Teddy’s, crackers, muesli bars – all the things your LO is used to munching on during the course of the day aside from the big meals.

Tip Three: Baby Food
Similar to packing for the toddler .. Just make life easier on you for the next day. (Not Breastfeeding) So if you haven’t already invest in a formula stacker ! (Container with either 3 or 4 compartments to store the formula scoops) By the end of the day if your LO has only had three of the four compartments, refill the three and pack it back. Clean out dirty bibs and immediately replace them.

Tip Four: The Washing
I know I dread it as well but it’s a must ! Get used to washing your LO’s clothes at night. By morning you would have had breakfast out of the way, then changed them from pjays to normal clothing (pjays in the basket).. So whilst doing your night time bag clean out after your LO’s bath and bed time is over, add to the pjays.. ( bibs, change of clothes, dirty socks, towel etc..) Wash that one load, and hang them in the morning or turn on the dryer.Next day, same thing.. Get into that habit, and snap out of washing their clothes twice or three times a day.

Tip Five: Household cleaning
It seems like everything I’m advising is happening at night, right? Not cleaning though. For me what works best is waking up before my LO even if it’s by half an hour. Get used to that, get your bed tidied up, a load in the washing and if you’re as lucky as me and have a deep sleeper – vacuum !! Otherwise do the vacuuming and dishes right after your LO has breakie. So by 10am guess who is sitting and spending time without a thing to do ? YOU ARE ! Also comes handy if you have some unexpected visitors during the day (: If mopping becomes a necessity, try and do it when your LO goes down for a nap, that way you’ll have no sKID marks over your floors.

Tip Six: Disinfect
Get into the habit of wiping down their cot, change table and tall boys with a mix of warm water and dettol every two days. You can also use it to mop the floors, if the smell is too strong use less than what is recommended, otherwise use cleaning vinegar. For the mamas that boil water for their LO’s bottles.. Every month fill half your kettle with cleaning vinegar and boil it ( you’d be surprised at what you’d find ). You can also try cleaning the steriliser (if you have one) with cleaning vinegar every fortnight ( same thing.. Just replace the recommended water amount with the vinegar DO NOT ADD BOTTLES) .. It will get rid of any excess bacteria still lying around that you can’t see.

It’s a lot to take in I know, but just sharing what works well for me.. And hopefully it will do the same for you (:

Baby got back !

I’m no personal trainer or fitness guru, but I’m one to vow that working out enables you to feel so much more energised, refreshed and confident. I never worked out prior to having my LO and I can honestly say I never had the intention of ever doing so until – well until I looked down at the scale.

I get it we have a 24/7 job , whether it’s being a mother or wife, it takes a lot of energy and time. The key to achieving a successful workout is routine.. For example what works for me is in the evenings for two days of the week.. My LO is in bed by 8pm no later leaving me a 1 hour break before hubby gets home. First half an hour consists of tidying up, placing a load of clothes in the wash and emptying my LO’s backpack.. Then it’s running shoes on, yoga mat out, earphones in and I begin !

Start by taking baby steps.. You may only do a mini workout maybe in the mornings ? Just for 10 minutes.. Start by doing 10 squats in front the mirror (YouTube is a great tool to learn how to do it correctly) , and then ten before bed.. Lay down on your carpet with your legs up, and try to touch your toes.. Try doing it 10 times (killer exercise but so effective to tone your tummy).. Try planking ! I promise you I couldn’t do it for longer than 15 seconds when I first tried, (YouTube for correct posture and breathing) .. You will notice, gradually day by day your body will push for more automatically, you’ll jump from 10 to 30 squats a day, from a 20 second to a two minute plank. You’ll feel much better if you take before and after shots.. Especially with squats, you’ll notice a difference within a couple of weeks and this will surely keep you motivated !

I’m one to raise my hand and say that I’ve given every excuse in the world.. But if you want it that bad you’ll make it happen no matter what… Your goal isn’t to be a body builder, your goal is to be fit and healthy 😊 And one hell of a sexy mama ! 💃
